What is it?

Flat feet, or more commonly diagnosed as pes planus, are when the feet appear to have a low medial arch (inside of foot).  This condition is usually characterized by hyperpronation (collapsing of the medial arches) and abducted feet (the feet point away from the body).

What causes it?
  • Congenital
  • Weakness of the ligaments, muscles, tendons and plantar fascia of the feet.
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Overuse - walking and standing for long hours.
  • Poor foot mechanics
  • Improper, non-supportive footware

What does treatment involve? (may include 1 or all of the following)

  • Physiotherapy / Massage Therapy / Chiropractic  for  PFS, ITBS, Achilles tendonitis, Shin splints or  low back pain that may be caused by pes planus  
  • Orthotics
