What is it?

Plantar fasciitis is a common, painful foot condition. The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the sole of the foot from the heel, along the arch and inserts to the ball of the foot at the metatarsal heads. This condition occurs when the connective tissue becomes irritated and inflamed. Heel pain is usually localized and is often worse with the first few steps taken in the morning.

What causes it?

  • Overuse (repeated running and/or jumping)
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Poor foot mechanics
  • Improper footware

What does treatment involve? (may include 1 or all of the following)

  • Ice
  • Anti-inflammatories as prescribed by a physician
  • Physiotherapy / Massage Therapy / Chiropractic / Shockwave Therapy
  • Orthotics
  • Brace – Recommended Braces
